Get started

Set up once. Then it’s four taps.

The school sets up its Google Sheet in about five minutes. Teachers add their students by number and are ready for the next hard moment. Built for K–5 classrooms.

For the school

What the school does, once

Usually a behavior specialist, school psych or counselor, with the school’s Google account.

  1. Make the school’s SheetAbout 5 minutes

Create a blank Google Sheet in the school’s account, paste in the Progress Grove script and choose Set up this spreadsheet. It creates every tab and an exports folder next to the Sheet.

  2. Try it with demo data first1 minute

Load the built-in demo: 24 made-up students, six classrooms and 12 weeks of sessions, so the team can see the reports and emails before any real data arrives. One menu item takes it all back out.

  3. Share the exports folder, not the Sheet

Teachers get the exports folder as editors so they can drop files in. The Sheet, which holds the Roster of names, stays with the people who need it.

  4. Add students and issue school IDs

Names go only in the Roster tab. The Sheet gives each student a short school ID, like GV9-P8GT, to pass to their teachers.

  5. Turn on imports and teacher emails

One menu item each: hourly imports, then fix lists, name alerts and a Friday “what’s working” summary for every teacher on the Teachers tab.

For teachers

Your first ten minutes

On your iPhone, iPad or Mac. No account to create and nothing to sign into.

  1. Set your classroom label

Your last name, “K2” or “Room 1”. It goes on every export so the Sheet knows which room the data came from. It isn’t a login.

  2. Add your students by number

The number you already use, like a seat or cubby number, a grade from K to 5 and a color-and-shape badge. No names. Link the school ID whenever you get it; past sessions pick it up at your next export.

  3. Tap Start event when a student needs support

Then Escalating, Calming and Regulated as things change. Tapped the wrong one? Undo last.

  4. Add the details when you have a minute

Tap what came before, what the student did and what helped, then type or dictate a short note.

  5. Export to the school folder

Share summary CSV and save it in the exports folder. Export as often as you like; the Sheet keeps the latest copy of each session.

One habit worth keeping

Export a full JSON backup and save it somewhere the school approves. It’s the only file that can put your records back on a new phone. The app reminds you once a week, after school, if your records changed since your last backup. You can change or turn off the reminder in Settings.

Questions teachers and schools ask

Do teachers need an account or a login?

No. There are no accounts. The classroom label identifies the room on exports, and an optional Face ID or passcode lock protects the app on the phone.

What grades is it for?

Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each student is added with a grade from K to 5.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

Recording does. Everything stays on the phone until you export, and saving the export to the school’s Drive needs a connection.

What if I forget to stop the timer?

The app asks “Still going?”. A session longer than 45 minutes (you can change the limit) or still running after the end of the school day is flagged and left out of school reports until you fix the end time or confirm the length.

What if I tap the wrong button?

Undo last removes the most recent tap. You can also correct any tap afterwards with a reason; the original stays in the timeline and reports use the corrected one.

Can I record two students at once?

Yes. Switching to another student keeps the first session running.

What if a note mentions a student’s name?

The app warns you as you type. If a Roster name still gets through, the Sheet removes it from the school’s copy, holds the session back and emails you what to fix. The email never includes the note.

What if I lose my phone?

Exports already in the school folder are safe. Records only on the phone can be restored from a full JSON backup, which is why the habit above matters.

What does the school need?

Google Workspace for the Sheet, and an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later, or a Mac, for each teacher who records.
